Help me give my students a chance to read engaging books at their level! Level A, B, and Mo Williams book give my students the opportunity have fun reading while also being successful!
This is my first year of teaching and I am lucky to get to work with 20 wonderfully diverse first grade students this year!
Thirteen of my students are English Language Learners - speaking Spanish, Arabic, Vietnamese, and Sinhalese.
My students come from the Mukilteo area, an area rich in diversity. My students love to read and are especially interested in books about science. Three of my students read about the solar system every chance they get and teach the class what they have learned.
While my class is very strong in math, almost 2/3 of my students are below grade level in reading. Most are still reading at a level A , even though students are expected to be reading at a level C by the end of Kindergarten. I'm hoping to help my students grow in reading to so they can use books as a source to keep learning about science and other topics! In order to do that, I need to meet them where they are at!
My Project
When I came into this new school, I brought boxes of books from library sales and garage sales. My classroom also came with a 1st grade set of leveled books. Unfortunately, 2/3's of my class is still reading at a Kindergarten level and we are out of Level A and Level B books for them to practice their reading skills!
The books from this project will help my students stay engaged with reading while still being successful!
It's so important to have books at the right levels so that each student can progress. Help my students have the right opportunities for learning! Thank you!
