My Project

My students in Canarsie, Brooklyn, are vibrant, thoughtful, and full of curiosity. What I love most about them is their ability to stay resilient and enthusiastic, even when faced with limited resources. They are eager to learn, grow, and express themselves—and they deserve access to books that reflect who they are and what they can become.

This project will bring a powerful collection of diverse, culturally relevant books into our classroom—stories that celebrate Black excellence, cultural identity, imagination, and history.

These books will help students build stronger reading skills, develop deeper self-confidence, and see themselves positively represented in literature. Each title was carefully chosen to support both academic learning and social-emotional growth.

Many of my students don’t have access to books at home, and our school’s library is limited. Your support will help build a classroom library where every child feels seen, valued, and inspired to read. These resources will make a lasting impact, fueling their love for reading and opening their minds to the endless possibilities ahead. Thank you for believing in their potential.
