My students come from all over the world, from different families and financial backgrounds, but they have one thing in common. They all love learning! Our school is at the edge of a rural city a block from the beach, and it serves a diverse group of children from over 15 different countries. Of my 20 students, 12 are English Language Learners, and more than half receive free or reduced-price lunch.
My class is a vibrant group of learners who are excited by project-based learning activities, love to create, explore, and manipulate, and love to share their learning with others.
They are engineers, architects, problem-solvers, team players, makers, creators, and hands-on learners. They are energetic, silly, and extremely active children who love to get up and move. They make me excited to come to work each day!
My Project
Reading isn't easy and is not something every student loves to do. But it can be. It can be something that every student loves given that they have books available that are on their level and of their interest. One of my goals every year is to have each and every one of my students leave the 2nd grade truly loving to read. I have many books in my class, but most are outdated and falling apart. I chose books for this project with each of my students in mind. They have characters they can relate to, and ones that are fiction and will make them laugh and excite them.
A good book lets your imagination run wild.
I want my students to be excited about reading! I also want them to be confident in their ability to read, which is why all the books I chose are aimed at their age and ability level. I am excited about these books and can already see each of my students picking them up with excitement! Thank you for making this dream a reality!
