This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am requesting high-interest books that will help my students learn to love reading. As a special education teacher, it is crucial to offer my students highly engaging books that even struggling or reluctant readers will be excited about.

The books I have chosen are high-interest, engaging books that will appeal to a wide variety of readers at different reading levels.

I picked a collection of books with diverse characters and several that feature children of color as protagonists so that my students can see themselves reflected in the books they read. I also chose books, such as graphic novels, that are accessible for older students who are reading at a lower level.

It is often difficult to find books that will appeal to upper-elementary and middle school students who are still learning to read, but in my experience, these books (graphic novels, fantasy, horror, and comical early readers) are incredibly popular with all readers, no matter their level. With your help, my students will be able to look forward to independent reading time and I'll be able to match every student with a book they'll love.
