My Students

I love to read books to my students. They enjoy making connections with the story read aloud to them and want to know what happens next in the story. The school I work at is a Title One school that has 61% of the population on free or reduced lunch.

I have shown them that I love to read books, so they have the same joy of reading!

My Project

My students love to read books and their favorite time of day is when they get to read by themself or with a buddy. I have students from all different races and backgrounds in my classroom. A majority of my books do not represent this diversity.

I am wanting to get more books that have characters that represent the diversity in my class.

If they see a character that looks like them, it allows them to relate to the character better in the book. If they have books with characters that look like them, it would all students could make connections to the message of the stories and apply it to their lives.
