My Project

Adding books by Kate DiCamillo and Gordon Korman to our sixth-grade classroom library will provide students with engaging and meaningful stories that encourage empathy and critical thinking. DiCamillo’s Because of Winn-Dixie and The Tiger Rising explore themes of friendship, grief, and resilience, helping young readers connect with characters who navigate complex emotions. The Tale of Despereaux immerses students in a tale of bravery and hope, teaching important lessons about courage and perseverance.

Korman’s books, including Ungifted, Restart, and Linked, balance humor with impactful messages about identity, second chances, and standing up for what is right.

His fast-paced writing and relatable characters make reading enjoyable while sparking thoughtful discussions. Stories like Supergifted and Slugfest encourage students to embrace their unique strengths, while Unplugged and The Unteachables highlight challenges in school life, making them highly relevant for sixth graders.

By incorporating these books into our classroom, we create an environment that fosters compassion, creativity, and a love for storytelling. These books encourage students to think critically, reflect on different perspectives, and engage in meaningful conversations. Through literature that resonates with their experiences and broadens their understanding of the world, our students grow into thoughtful, socially aware individuals ready to navigate the complexities of life with an open mind.
