My Project
At my high school, students come from a wide range of cultural, social, and economic backgrounds, yet many have limited opportunities to see their own experiences reflected in the books they read—or to understand the lives of others whose stories differ from their own. That’s why I’ve carefully selected 23 powerful books, both fiction and nonfiction, that feature multicultural authors and diverse characters. These books are more than just literature, they are tools for empathy, identity development, and meaningful conversation.
This collection includes titles that address racial justice, immigration, gender identity, mental health, poverty, and resilience, providing students with "mirrors" that reflect their own lives and "windows" into the lives of others.
From heartfelt memoirs to compelling novels, each book was chosen to spark compassion, critical thinking, and respectful dialogue among students. These works will be made available through our school library and reading programs to ensure access for all.
