My Students

Students come from all walks of life at our school. We celebrate diversity on a daily basis and look for ways to create a learning environment that appeals to all types of learners. We honor various learning styles and embrace the differences that make us all unique.

Our class includes multi-language learners, students with speech and language delays and students benefiting from various sensory integration strategies.

My students range in ability and are ages four and five attending a full day preschool program. We are nestled in a south side Chicago neighborhood, walking distance from a large university.

My Project

I am requesting a collection of diverse books that will update our existing classroom read-aloud library.

Read aloud time is the best part of the day in our preschool classroom.

Students gather together to hear a variety of stories that reflect students' curiosity, build empathy, spark joy and support early literacy development.

The books I have requested will support students' knowledge of cultures and communities beyond their own. Titles like "Eyes that Kiss in the Corner" and "Brown- The Many Shades of Love" will provide students with reflections of themselves in books.

I have requested copies of classic titles and characters like "The Little Old Lady who wasn't Afraid of Anything" and "Pete the Cat: Falling for Autumn". These books are well loved and repeatedly read in our classroom and require replacement often.

I am confident that this collection of books will build bridges for students to experience new ideas, as well as strengthen our classroom community through the magical time of storytelling.
