Help me give my students an opportunity to read modern and relevant texts that touch on climate change and mental health! These books were recently approved by our district, and students are eager to give into these books.

My Project
This year, several colleagues and I were determined to modernize and diversify the selection of books we can study with our students. We set out to find relevant, engaging, and appropriately challenging books that students will enjoy. As you can imagine, we found many.
Our ELA department is ecstatic as students have already expressed their eagerness to read and discuss "Dry" by Neal Shusterman and "Everything I Never Told You," by Celeste Ng.
We have run into the problem, however, of not having the funds in our budget to purchases these books. We are looking for help from our community.
In reading the books "Dry," students will explore the impacts of climate change on a diverse set of high schoolers. They will be challenged to identify an environmental problem and propose potential solutions. They will discuss the complexities of selflessness, loyalty, and forgiveness.
In our study of "Everything I Never Told You," students will dive into the lives of Chinese American family living in Chicago in the 1970's. They'll analyze the every changing dynamics of parent and child relationships along with the pressures of being a child of immigrants.
Thank you for considering contributing to our mission of reading important and modern books with our students!
