Then, we paired the text with a non-fiction text about identify formation and used it to understand what was happening to the shift in Montag's identity in his dystopian society.\r\n\r\nReading and collecting evidence began to evolve more into a game when we started to wrap up the year with my favorite unit: Romeo and Juliet. Students benefitted from the No Fear Shakespeare text, because while we would read the traditional text in certain scenes to break down the figurative language and cryptic foreshadowing, students would also be able to access the modern day translation of what characters were saying when they needed the support. I divided the class up into the two houses, Montagues and Capulets, and they would earn and lose points for various things throughout the unit that would lead up to a fun competition at the end of the year, since the family rivalry is what the whole play is about. This got students very competitive, and would even try to beg or bribe myself or their peers to read certain character roles! Students signed up for acting parts and would read lines and get into character, and even read with expression. What a dream this is for teachers! We would laugh, make jokes about the characters, and then break down and analyze what was happening with the text and plot before using time to gather evidence they would need in their last test of the year.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your donation. These novel sets will last for a long, long time.","fullyFundedDate":1721925709328,"projectUrl":"project/classroom-set-of-the-classics/8433215/","projectTitle":"Classroom Set of the Classics","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Miles","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9560216"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_66044","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1563,"numTeachers":62,"percentFrplEligible":53,"percentAsian":12,"percentBlack":3,"percentWhite":38,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":33,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"25.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":72.0,"schoolId":66044,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Century High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Century High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/oregon/hillsboro-school-district-1j/century-high-school/66044"}
