My Students
As a teacher in a Title I school, the students are faced with many different challenges. The school provides the students with breakfast and lunch based on the socioeconomic status of the area. Regardless of this, my students crave to learn in a literature rich environment.
I have two classes of 22 enthusiastic learners this year, a total of 44 amazing students!
Our focus is on engaging our students in reading with literature. Our students are excited every year to participate in various book clubs and competitions. The range of readers in my classroom range from 2nd grade to 5th grade and I would like to close the achievement gap using interesting text for the students. The best way for any student to learn is to find an interesting book and just read. That’s what I want to provide my students.
My Project
Every year, students are asked to read and vote on interesting and exciting books. Sometimes these books are not available when they would like to read it and many times there aren't enough copies in school and public libraries. Having the Sunshine State Books available in the classroom will help the students be more engaged in the school wide incentives as well as exposing them to different books.
Students who love reading should have the opportunity to explore new books.
Students will be able to interact with these new books. As the teacher, I can also use these books for book studies and partner the students to create projects based on the books they are reading. Having these new books would greatly expand my classroom library and make it more diverse.
