My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. My students are all different types of learners and have various backgrounds. I have students who do not speak English, students with disabilities, and some students who are homeless.
I teach at a Title I school in the Bronx, New York where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Many of my students receive food and clothing from the school's charity drives. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day.
These books will help my students in many ways. The main way is by practicing their reading skills by having a variety of books to read. The students also need books because right now they do not have many books and having more to choose from the classroom library would encourage students to read more.
Also, many of our books are very old and are missing covers and pages.
I want my students to get that "new book feeling," which is when you comb through a new book with the stiff, fresh smelling pages, and the pristine cover.
In this digital word, its still important to expose children to actual printed material because there is nothing like holding a good book in your hands.
