Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

I am a second grade elementary school teacher in Brooklyn, New York. I have a class of 19 students, a majority of whom are well below grade level in reading. Many of my students do not have someone to read to them at home. I would like to raise money to purchase audio cassette players and books on tape, to enhance my students' listening skills and boost their reading levels. I believe that students can greatly benefit by exposure to literature. I am confident that my students would excel with the opportunity to read and listen along in the classroom. The materials needed are book & tape sets that will be used with our class listening center. This age-appropriate materials will help English Language Learners and developing readers greatly! My students and I will warmly welcome assistance in carrying out this project!
