It's Saturday night. I've been at school all afternoon planning for next week, particularly for my reading lessons. I teach twenty-one third graders in a school with 90% poverty. I am constantly searching for new strategies to help all of them. Recently I discovered research about the success teachers are having with books on tape. I am confident that this strategy would benefit all of my students. There are so many ways to use books on tape to target student needs. For my beginning readers, the tapes would be a tremendous asset. They could hear passages repeated, which would lead to increased vocabularies and comprehension skills. My accelerated readers could use the books on tape to help with fluency and intonation. The reading skills of all of my learners will increase as I plan exciting lessons around the books on tape. The books I would love to have for my class represent different time periods. These books will serve as a catalyst for research and writing activities. Please consider partnering with me to reach twenty-one very special children.
