Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

First grade is an exciting year: students learn how to read! It's an amazing transition from non-reader to reader if a child has the background experiences and language skills. Listening to books on tape can greatly increase a child's reading and language skills. My students and I would greatly appreciate a set of four cassette players and headphones and a classroom set of First Grade picture books on tape that my students could use during school time and even borrow to use at home. Exposure to literature and a model reader would improve reading fluency and support my many English Language Learners. Of course, the books-on-tape would increase their love of books as well! In addition, my school is under-resourced and my students have not had the privilege of an adult reading to them at home. Listening to a book on tape would provide all 20 of them with the simple story-telling they are missing. Thank you so much for considering our needs. My students and I would be very grateful!
