This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Camden, NJ ranked most dangerous in the country AGAIN!" "Poverty and homelessness rampant in Camden, NJ!" I am sure when you think of Camden, you picture gun-ridden streets, homelessness, and an overall sense of doom. You may feel, sorrow or despair for the residents, children especially, of this heavily populated city. It is a shame that our city and its residents rarely make the news for any sort of positive messages!

I see hope, perseverance, and a will to learn and grow.

Our students in Camden, NJ are special. Some have such sad stories at such a young age, but... out of sadness often comes triumph. My students are thirsty for knowledge, and as their teacher, I do everything in my power to keep that thirst alive!

My Project

This year, I will be adopting the EngageNY curriculum with my 5th grade students. This is a wonderful program that is rigorous and engaging! My previous students struggled with the literacy textbooks and were not engaged in the material. EngageNY uses books, not basals!

Each donation will go towards the purchasing of rich, engaging books for EACH student in my class!

The first book, "The Most Beautiful Roof in the World" describes the work of scientists documenting rainforest biodiversity. The second book, "The Boy Who Invented the TV" explores the life of inventor Philo Farnsworth, who discovered how to transmit images electronically, leading to the first television.
