This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We need interesting and diverse books to meet our quarterly reading goals. Students must read enough books to make their point goal. Plus, they must average 85% or higer to meet their reading accuracy goal. Accuracy is more important than points, and lots of practice is required.

I teach 27 eager first grade students who enjoy learning how to read, write, and do math.

My students range from gifted and talented to below grade level. We are proud to be a Nationally Recognized School of Excellence and have won many prestigious awards. Since we are not a Title I school, funding extra projects is very difficult!

My Project

The AKJ books that I have selected would be the perfect addition to my classroom library. These books are specifically leveled for first and second grade students. After reading each book 2 or 3 times, students would be allowed to take an Accelerated Reading Quiz. Taking these quizzes will help them meet their reading goals in my classroom. Students will enjoy the colorful pictures, which help beginning readers understand the meaning of the text. These 30 books also integrate best research-based practices for close reading, text analysis, writing to text, narrative and expository writing, and fluency development. We could use the books for whole class, small group, and independent practice. I also like that these books are leveled to reach below grade level, on grade level, and above grade level students. We are also trying to become a "Master Reading Classroom." To qualify for this award, 90% of my students must read at 85% or higher over a 25-week period.

Students would love reading these funny books. I have set individual reading goals for each student. We need interesting books written specifically for first grade. I know these books will engage my students

as they learn to take comprehension quizzes, develop self-confidence, and improve their fluency. The books range from below grade level to advanced, making this set perfect for my students. Help us meet and exceed our reading goals. Thank you for your consideration!
