Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I have been the art teacher at a South Bronx K-5 school for the last six years. It is so difficult to receive funding for arts where there is always a need for test prep materials and regular class books. My students are very talented individuals and I try to expose them to all aspects of art. I follow their social studies curriculum and we explore many cultures and many different mediums of art. Having a classroom art library would expose my students to even more wonderful experiences. They will be able to see many examples of the art that I am referring to and they can also explore various art and artists on their own free time. There are two other art teachers in my school who would also be able to benefit from an art library as well. With each teacher having 550 students or more, we are constantly buying supplies to meet these students' needs. A library to use as reference would make a world of difference our students. I would love for my students to be able to research an artist all on their own, instead of me doing all the research. With them doing the research they will broaden their minds to even more artists and even more techniques while they are flipping through the books. If I had the opportunity to have this art library for my class, the first project that I would do is a lesson in Pop Art. My students will study the works of Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, and Roy Lichtenstein to name a few and create masterpieces in their style. Please consider my students for this donation.
