I teach 4th grade in a rural community. Many of my students have limited access to books. There is no library in our area. So the only place they can find new books is at school. Over the years our school has become more diversified. These kids are trying to figure out where they fit in. I have seen them struggle and would love to do something that helps them see that they do fit in with us and there are other kids out there who are just like them.
My Project
Our school is becoming more diversified. I would like to add books to my classroom library that represent the different students that are in my class. I have students that think they don't "fit in" because they are different. I want my students of different races, cultures, and abilities to be able to find a book that they can relate to. I want them to see themselves as a part of our class even if something is different... we are all different. This would help my kid feel like they belong and that we are all a big classroom family.
