Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students love to learn! Every day, they come to school ready to ask questions, explore new ideas, and do their best. Most of our students qualify for free lunch, so families are not able to provide the school with extra financial support.
Kindergartners learn best through hands-on, integrated experiences.
This is especially important for my students who are English Language Learners. They have to master academic concepts and a new language at the same time! It's important that these students have lots of time to practice their new language so they can share what they've learned.
My Project
My students love to read their "just right" books during Readers Workshop. "Just right" books are books that students can read independently. My students shop for their books based on their reading skills and own interests.
Guided Reading is a special time in our day when I give direct reading instruction to students.
This is also the time of day when students get to show off all the reading skills they have acquired.
In order to provide my students with this valuable time I need the entire class to be actively engaged in independent reading. This means providing enough high-interest books for everyone to read during Readers Workshop. With students coming to school with a variety of interests and academic experiences, we need to continue growing our classroom library with engaging leveled readers.
