Books in These Unprecedented Times

Help me give my students new books! We need new copies of some of our well-worn faves like Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Judy Moody, Babysitters Club, Dog Man, and more.

My Students

My third grade class this year looks a little different. There are only 9 of us back in person, with more coming soon. We're a Title I school in Washington, DC, with diverse backgrounds and languages spoken at home. The students brought back for in-person learning were identified as particularly vulnerable in their education due to being English language learners, special education students, or students who have experienced trauma.

In these unprecedented times, our classroom is our safe space.

Students who have only read using apps for the last year are holding books in their hands. We are laughing and learning and complimenting each other's masks.

My Project

As we come back into the classroom in person, my students are so excited for the books available in my classroom library. Unfortunately, my Book Hospital bin is filling up faster than I can repair the books, and not all of them can be repaired anymore.

My students love reading, and sometimes my classroom library is their main source of books.

After an especially weird 12 months, I want my students to have clean, new copies of books to read during independent reading, free time, and indoor recess.
