My Project

The South Carolina Book Award nominee books will spark excitement in our students’ learning by offering them diverse, engaging stories that challenge their thinking and open up new perspectives. Through the book club, students will get to explore these captivating reads, share their thoughts with friends, and even vote for their favorites—turning reading into an adventure! This experience will boost their reading skills and inspire a lifelong love for books and learning.

This project aims to give McDonald Elementary students access to the South Carolina Book Award nominee books and build a vibrant community around reading.

We want students to be genuinely excited about the books they’re exploring, sparking lively discussions about the characters, themes, and story elements. By creating a space where reading is fun and collaborative, we aim to inspire a lifelong love for literature and a deeper understanding of the world through stories.

The students at McDonald Elementary are special because we work hard to make both students and their families active participants in literacy activities and conversations. I aim to make reading a central part of not just our school, but also our homes and community. As a Title I school where 100% of our students receive free lunch, many of our families face financial hardships and daily stresses. Despite these challenges, we are committed to creating a supportive environment where reading becomes a source of joy, growth, and connection for everyone involved.
