Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are energetic kids with a love of learning. Over 90% of my students come from low-socioeconomic families. Around 50% of them meet the definition of homeless. Their parents are struggling to pay rent and get food on the table. They are working necessary jobs for us and for their families. My kindergartners worry about their well being, and yet, they still want to create, read, and write! They want to learn and grow.
During this pandemic, my students are sheltering in place with basic classroom supplies and necessities; and most recently, I made them masks in child sizes to keep them safe.
I want them to continue to be safe and stay healthy as they work hard to learn about technology, and at the same time, Math, Reading, Writing, and Science.
My Project
On March 13, I sent home 10 books and lots of supplies with each of my students so they would have materials to continue learning from home until we returned to school. Two weeks later, I sent home another 10 books each, hoping they would read and enjoy them. Now, we will not be returning to our classroom this school year and they will get to enjoy these books for years to come. I have already purchased more books to give to them for the summer. I want my students to read and reread all summer. I am happy to share these books with them.
Now, I need to replenish my classroom library!
I plan to continue to read to my students online with our class meetings and I hope that these books purchased with DonorsChoose will be books I can share with my new students in the Fall, in a clean and safe classroom.
My students are working hard to learn about technology, and at the same time, they are learning to read. Please help me to replenish my library so that I can fill my students with language and knowledge.
