My Students

My ninth grade Humanities students are a spirited bunch of young minds. They are eager to learn about practical and applicable topics that they can implement their writing and communications skills in. I teach at a public charter school which offers a project-based learning environment using technology and 21st Century Skills.

This year, my students are reading a diverse set of books aimed at tying into current events.

This will allow them to acutely understand the issues that the world is grappling with. They will form opinions and communicate them to their peers. In addition, I seek to supplement the classroom library with material that my students are genuinely interested in reading.

My students want to learn about global issues and communicate their ideas in different ways. Through a variety of media, they are learning how to navigate and communicate in this world. They have the desire to learn in many different ways and to express themselves in an even wider variety of ways.

My Project

My students this year are extraordinarily keen on reading. Given the option to listen to me read to them or to watch YouTube videos of readers, many of them want to read the book themselves. They want to dive in and experience the book the way it was intended.

My students want options when it comes to some of our future planned books and even more options in the classroom library.

Unlike many of my students before, this class wants to learn through books.

By providing them with options, I am helping them to explore the world.
