Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are gifted first, second, third and fourth graders in a low socio-economic area of North Texas. They come from varied backgrounds and cultures. They are talented, imaginative, and creative children; however, they all have one thing in common--they LOVE to learn. Some are talented young artists, others are future novelists, one of them may someday lead our country. ALL of them will definitely need 21st century skills when they leave public schooling and enter into the "real world."

My Project

Over half of my students are English Language Learners, and we have no books in Spanish in our classroom library. These books would allow my younger students, whose language instruction is primarily in Spanish, to have books to read in their first language.

We are also asking for shelves to create a classroom library.

These shelves are low to the floor and would allow students of all ages to easily access the books while sitting in the reading area.

These items would make a huge difference in my classroom. My students love reading, but it is so difficult for my Spanish speaking students when we have independent reading time, because they have only English books to select from.
