Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students began learning a foreign language last year in first grade. It is now time for them to start second grade, and I want to make sure they have everything they need to be successful this year. About half of my students come from a native Spanish speaking background.
We use the 50/50 model in our classroom in that students only read, write, and speak in Spanish when they walk through the door into my room and then after lunch they switch classes and go to the English speaking teacher where they learn in the English language.
My Project
Many of these 30 books are focused on science and math. These are two subjects that are very important for students to become proficient in so that they can do well in college and later in life. We will be writing lots of book reports in Spanish, and we want to fill up our classroom library.
With these books my students will become proficient readers and will enjoy learning their new language.
Students in these programs will become great employees and leaders in the future work force. They will go on to change the world they live in and be contributors to our growing universal society.
