My Project

"I love art, Mrs. Garcia!" Hearing my students' enthusiasm for art is the highlight of my day. They deserve the best and I do my best to give it to them. I often use books to introduce an artist or art technique. We talk about the life and time period of the artist, examine the illustrations for use of art elements and use the illustrations as inspiration for our own artwork.

Literature is a way to spark creativity, provide visual examples of art through illustration, learn about history, and encourage reading.

It is common for my students to applaud at the conclusion of a story, especially biographies. They ask questions about the artist being studied or the process of how the illustrations are made. As we read, students point out the art techniques they see in the illustrations, critique them, engage in conversations about the story, and compare time periods. With your help, I can provide more reading opportunities which will further enhance these positive behaviors in my art class.
