My Project
In my classroom in the South Bronx, we are building both readers and a sense of belonging. Many of my students are brand new to the United States, navigating a new city, a new language, and a new way of learning. English is unfamiliar. NYC is overwhelming. And the classroom can feel like a world of its own. But every single one of them has a story to tell and the right to see themselves reflected in the room around them.
This project will give my students access to bilingual books, Spanish-English dictionaries, inclusive games, and tools that meet them where they are!
These resources are not just about reading. They’re about equity. They are about giving scholars with special learning needs or language differences the chance to engage with our class novels at their own pace, and still feel like they’re part of the story. When students feel represented, when they can decode a word in their first language or engage with a text in a way that makes sense to them, they start to show up differently. They lean in. They try. They thrive.
These materials will help create a classroom that honors every voice, every pace, and every path forward. In the South Bronx, we celebrate resilience. Now, we need the tools to match it.
