Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students attend a Title I school in South Carolina. All seven hundred of our amazing students receive free lunch. Therefore, most have limited resources at home and have many hardships to overcome. What they receive at school (food, clothing, love, and a quality education) is of the utmost importance.
Every day our amazing students come to school not just ready to learn, but excited to learn!
It is a privilege to watch them learn and grow at school. Many then take what they have learned home to teach their younger siblings, and in some cases teach their parents, how to read or even how to speak English. Their love of learning is contagious!
My Project
Our student library is out of date. With the amount of money being put into technology to bring our students into the 21st Century, our funding for library books has seen a tremendous cut over the last few years. To bring our library up-to-date, we were told it would cost approximately $49,000. That is money our school just does not have right now. Since the books will be in the library they need to have library binding which in turn means they cost more than regular books.
While technology is important and we need it, there is just something about having a real book in your hands that you can turn the pages of as you read.
With your donation we won't be able to fund the whole library, but we can begin to build it a book at a time.
