Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have been given the opportunity to teach the best group of little people imaginable. I looped with them from first to second and am excited to have been able to loop up with them to third grade this year! At this point, we are truly a family.
These little people are absolutely amazing.
They face many challenges and hardships that would defeat any average person. They all qualify to receive free lunch, English is a second language for the majority of my class, and many are facing extraordinary challenges at home. My students are not average, however. They are extraordinary!
Despite the many challenges they face, they come to school ready and excited to learn! They come with open minds and open hearts and are the most remarkable and kindhearted people I have had the pleasure to know. This is shown day after day as they request extra time to work in place of recess, show excitement over every lesson or activity I plan, persevere to complete accurate work no matter how long it takes, extend a helping hand to classmates when they need it, and share everything. Knowing them has made me a better person!
My Project
My students need access to new books in our reading nook. I have had the pleasure of looping with my class for the past three years, this means they have been all of the books in our classroom library, more than once! New access to book series such as Fly Guy, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and Judy Moody will really bring our book nook to life again!
Nothing is more satisfying than sitting down with a good book.
My students have grown to love reading all across genres. They take part in self selected reading every day and often keep a book with them for times when they are finished with other work early. They also take books with them to lunch and recess!
