All students in grades Kindergarten through 5th Grade attend music lessons twice a week. They learn a variety of repertoire and musical concepts throughout the school year as we aim to establish music literacy.
About 800 students attend this school, most of which attend music in my classroom.
We are a Title One campus and many of our students are lower income. Our school is located within a larger military community and serves many students with active duty and often deployed parents. Teachers at our campus are constantly searching for ways to ignite a passion for learning within our students.
My Project
Students will explore musical concepts and subjects with this new collection of books. Some activities will enhance the learning of new repertoire, while some will open up the opportunity to explore the instruments in the classroom as we tell the story. Others will teach about composers and include specific listening. These books will guide the students to use their imaginations while we explore new music activities in each lesson.
As students explore the new collection of books during their music lessons, we will find new ways to make their music learning imaginative and fun.
Picture books used in the music classroom offer fresh and new activities for the students as well as show them the importance of literacy across the whole campus. Students tend to leave my room with plans to search the library for the books we've used so that they can re-live the experience with their loved ones!
