Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is a Title I middle school located in North Las Vegas, NV. All of the students at this school receive free or reduced-price lunch. My average class size is between 35-40 students. My students are from a low-income, or an under-served area. They strive to work against this adversity. The background that my students have requires a warm learning environment to counteract any negative they may face. They work well in hands-on settings involving lots of group work. My students are not on grade level and this year will be spent helping them get to that level.
My Project
Studies show that having access to a classroom library helps students engage in independent reading more often. My students are very interested in reading engaging books! However, my shelves are bare.
Please help me give my students books that will keep them coming back to my library year-round.
Many of these books are ones that I know my current students would be interested in based on what I know about them. As soon as I get these books in my hands they will be in the hands of some very excited students!
Nearly all students from low‑income households
