My Students

Hello! I am a 6th grade teacher in East Los Angeles!

While I am a math teacher, I strongly believe in the power of reading and discovering other worlds and perspectives through books.

Especially during this stay at home period, I have personally found so much joy in escaping through reading. To be able to take a break from all the screens and zooms, and disappear into someone else's story has been so wonderful and I want my students to be able to experience this as well.

Since our students are at home and are not able to browse through our school library as normal, I have begun delivering books every week to students of all grade levels. I have a modest library at home that I am hoping to add to so that all students can find something they love.

My Project

I have been delivering books to students as we are in distance learning so they can still have access to books that interest them and have an opportunity to take a break from being on a screen all day!

I have carefully curated a list that reflects my students' interests, backgrounds and also provides a look into the lives of those different from them.

I have also made sure that these books span multiple reading levels, as we have students from kindergarten reading levels all the way to high school levels. My students are particularly loving graphic novels these days, so I made sure to include plenty of those!
