Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Over the years I have used videos, a small library of books, and borrowed books to target speech therapy goals in my speech class. For middle school, we often rely on books read in class; however, for elementary school, it would be so wonderful to have more books that support targeting goals related to articulation, perspective taking, social-emotional learning, inference, vocabulary, and figurative language. Some of the selected books can also be used with middle school-aged students. I have selected books that are culturally responsive and allow for our speech groups to dive into their speech goals, while also providing a platform for discussion of students' experiences. The books include illustrations that will encourage student participation by drawing their attention to the book, and by giving another method of support to have deeper discussions about the narratives we read.
