My Project

My 6th graders love to read! Graphic novels in our 6th grade classroom library are important because they engage reluctant readers, making reading fun and accessible. Books such as New Kid, The Baby-Sitters Club, and Amulet are very popular. This year I am challenging my students to read 40 books from a variety of genres including graphic novels.

Graphic novels address diverse themes and experiences, fostering empathy and critical thinking.

These books serve as a bridge to more complex literature, encouraging a lifelong love of reading. Additionally, they act as windows and mirrors, allowing students to see themselves and understand others’ experiences. This promotes empathy, self-awareness, and a broader worldview.
