Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Access to engaging, high-quality books is essential for fostering a love of literacy, yet many of my 6th-grade students at our Title One school have limited access to books outside of school. Our classroom library lacks the diverse and thought-provoking novels needed to inspire curiosity and enhance comprehension skills. Through this project, we aim to obtain three new sets of novels—Number the Stars, The City of Ember, and A Long Walk to Water—which will provide students with meaningful reading experiences that align with our curriculum and encourage critical thinking.

These books will make a significant impact by allowing students to engage in deep discussions about historical events, problem-solving, and perseverance while improving their reading fluency and comprehension.

Small-group reading activities will foster collaboration and critical thinking, making literacy more interactive and accessible. By offering differentiated instruction through varied reading levels and genres, these books will support a wide range of learners, ensuring that every student has an opportunity to grow as a reader.

My students are inquisitive, resilient, and eager to learn, despite the challenges they may face. They bring unique perspectives to the classroom and thrive when given opportunities to connect literature to real-world experiences. By providing them with these high-quality novels, we are not only strengthening their literacy skills but also empowering them to explore new ideas, develop empathy, and become lifelong readers. With your support, we can build a stronger, more engaging classroom library that nurtures their love for reading and learning. Thank you for believing in our students and the power of books!
