This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are special because they come to school even when times are rough at home. School is their safe place. Their escape from life. They always have a smile on their face and are so eager to learn new things. They try when concepts might be a little hard and they never give up. They love song and dance and will incorporate that into everything. They get excited at the most simple things and they love each other.
Our school is in a place that is high in crime and violence.
Our students live in poverty. At school, we hope to provide our students with as much age appropriate experiences as possible. We hope to give them opportunities they may never get to experience.
My Project
We recently received book bins in hopes we’d have some leveled books to fill those bins. After going through our classroom library, many books were only “look books” that aren’t satisfying to my eager readers. As a result, our bins don’t allow for my students to have very many options when choosing a book to read. Adding leveled books, in both fiction and non fiction genres, to our bins will encourage my students, as well as give them options, to grab a book that is of their reading ability. It is my goal for each of my students to grow at least 2 to 3 levels by the end of the year and to instill in them a love for reading all genres of books!
