This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am an itinerant bilingual school counselor in my district and work with students of all ages who are newly arrived in the U.S. from all over the world. One of the challenges of being an itinerant counselor is planning and finding bilingual resources for the specific socioemotional needs of students of different ages, developmental stages, backgrounds, nationalities, and schools.
This project will allow me to have a mini mobile library and provide students with information, support, and guidance in their acculturation process through reading books relatable to their immigration journeys.
The books will be used during individual counseling sessions, newcomer groups, and classroom lessons in the schools I support throughout the district.
