This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 6th and 7th-grade students are making short work of the limited books available in our developing math library. Could you imagine looking for an interesting book, only to find that you have read everything available to you, or that nothing captivates you?

My South Brooklyn 6th and 7th-Graders inspire me in that they love to read, all of the time!

I have teamed up with our literacy teacher in trying to support their amazing reading habits in math class; however, our math library is just developing. As I work in a high poverty school, basic supplies are often difficult to come by. My students often visit bookstores, but can only daydream about the books that they would love to have available to them. Your support would make my students' year and foster their development of math fluency. Your contribution to this project would add books to our library that highlight the more captivating elements of architecture, design, mathematics, physics, and astronomy!

My Project

The books in this selection, including The New Cosmos: Answering Astronomy's Big Questions and Iggy Peck, Architect will bolster our library with books that use math and design in interesting and relatable fashions. Exploring math in a manner that excites students, and piques their interest, is a way to not only turn students on to the beauty of mathematics, but also to have them further advocate for their educations, in that they will be reading books that they are interested in! Architecture, Design, Construction, and Astronomy are what we wish to explore through reading! My students are the designers, architects, artists, and critical thinkers of tomorrow!

Your generosity will bring this library to life!

I would love for my students to know that there is an exciting way to learn most anything. Additionally, one of the best ways to do so is to find a book that speaks to you, to identify with the ideas of another person, and to enhance your reading and math skills at the same time.
