My students need these books to work on their story order, story retell, and narrative development skills, as well as their grammar, vocabulary, and social skills.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I see 45 pre K-8th graders in our school district and work on many speech, language, and social skills with them.
My students are diverse, interesting and kind.
Many are English Language Learners, and come from languages and places that span the globe.
They work hard to further their speech and language development. My schools are in low socio-economic status neighborhoods, but are great places to learn. The teachers and staff at these schools are very dedicated to their students' education.
My Project
These materials are a flexible and engaging way to connect narrative language skills with many other language skills that my students need to work on. These books can be used to target social skills (perspective taking), figurative language (idioms, metaphors, similes), and grammar (past, present, and future tenses).
These books will improve my students' vocabulary so they can be able to relate to more kids and adults around them.
Under the umbrella of vocabulary, I can use these books to target attributes, antonym, synonym, as well as teaching new and exciting verbs like "spring" and "leap" to enhance common verbs like "go".
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
