As a teacher in a low-income, high-poverty area, my students are faced with several challenges both inside the classroom and out. Despite the many challenges that they face, my students strive to improve their skills and work hard to be their best. As their teacher, I strive to provide them with creative and meaningful learning experiences that will last them a lifetime.
My students are considerate, motivated, and successful.
They are amazing and want to succeed and beat the challenges that face them. Most of the population of my school are from low-income and poverty-stricken households. Many of them have to get themselves ready for school, and rely on school for their breakfast, lunch, and snack and receive free or reduced lunches. Even with these challenges, the students are amazing. I often provide all of my own supplies for the students, but I can not do it alone. Your donation will help give my students the tools that they can't afford that will make them successful.
My Project
Adding more current and relevant books to our classroom library will help my children want to read more in class. Our classroom library is limited and very outdated, and having current chapter and graphic novels that they pick out will make them want to read it, as well as care for the book.
Student choice is very important and helps students develop a sense of ownership, and care, for the materials they get to read.
These books will be kept in our classroom library, neatly, and will help my students achieve Accelerated Reader points by taking a quiz on the books when they are finished reading them. This activity helps motivate them with monthly reading incentives and recognition, and they love to move their Quaffle on our Quidditch field.
