I teach remedial reading to 25 first graders. Forty percent of the student population of my school is Hispanic. The majority of my students are underprivileged and have parents who do not speak English. I try hard to provide my students with intensive daily lessons taught by me and familiar reading practice alongside a trained volunteer tutor. In addition, I would love to be able to give my students some of their favorite titles to have for their very own. I believe these quality materials would be enjoyed over and over by the children and perhaps even help to accelerate the acquisition of English in younger siblings as the students read aloud to them. I have selected a variety of sets of favorite student titles. I would love to be able to give each child 2 books to keep!
