My Project

In October, we will be recognizing Indigenous Peoples' Day. Last year I was able to comb through our library to find books that feature Native characters or are written by Native authors. This year my goal is to intentionally add books to our collection to engage students in thinking about indigenous cultures from a variety of perspectives, focusing in particularly on tribes and cultures local to our area.

It is critical that students who identify as Native/Indigenous see themselves and their cultures represented in our library.

It is also critical for other students to learn about these people and cultures as well as the history of the land we occupy. We will use these books to encourage students to read and learn about indigenous peoples throughout the school year with a massive launch on October 9th, Indigenous Peoples' Day this year.
