Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, my school has been shut down since March 13. Students have been able to pick up packets at the school and log in to Google to talk with me, however no new material is being taught. All students come from low-income homes, and most have little to no internet access and several cannot pick up the packets due to having no transportation.
About half of my class has been able to log in to Google Hangouts twice a week and talk with me, read stories, and talk with each other.
However, they are not learning new, fourth quarter topics, and several have not made as much progress, simply because they do not have the resources available at home.
My Project
I am asking for books to give to my students to read at home while school and libraries remain closed. School has been closed since March 13, and my students are in need of books to help keep them reading.
My students love to read and I know that receiving their own books to keep will make their day.
With school and libraries closed, many cannot access reading materials. I want to help keep them reading so they do not fall behind academically during these difficult times in our country.
