I am a 5th grade special education teacher. In our school we have a reading program called Accelerated Reader, and that is where our students read and gain points. When the end of each 9 weeks comes up and the students have all of the points that they are assigned to reach we take them on a field trip. The students really enjoy getting to go on field trips. I am not going to lie, it is hard to get them to read, but I believe that having a library of my own in my classroom will give my students more access to books and they can check them out from me and take them home. I really believe that having a classroom library is a good way to get your students to read.
