My students from Houston, Texas are superstars. I had the opportunity to work with some of them when they were 4th graders and each one of them growth near and dear to my heart.
Seeing them learn and grow every day brought me true happiness.
Some of my students have recently tested out of the ESL program at the school, so having a variety of books is very important. Many of these students do not have access to books at home, which is why it is so important that I have them in my classroom.
My students are 5th graders that loved reading when they were in 4th grade. I had an opportunity to work with them when they were in 4th grade and enjoyed independent reading every day because they became so excited to read books of their choice. I was surprised to see that each and every student had different interests in subject matters. Even though my class has a variety of different backgrounds, they all share one thing in common. They love reading. I believe books help my students step away from their lives and become someone or something they aren't normally.
As a class, I want us to grow as readers and lovers of education.
These books will continue to enhance my classroom that I long to create. Since I am a first year teacher, my classroom library is quite bare, but I know these books will definitely bring my students joy. My library will be a place where students can step away from their personal struggles and just relax regardless if it is independent reading, class read-aloud, or just working on the carpet. I have spent a lot of time observing my students to see which types of books they enjoy to read and felt the need to add them into the library.
