Books for ESL Students!

Help me give my students new books to read for the upcoming semester. My design, honors, and ESL students love reading young-adult books and graphic novels! I am hoping to cultivate their love for reading and learning with these new books for our classroom library.

My Students

My students are all high school language learners and language arts students in my classroom. Many students are refugees and immigrants seeking better opportunities, education, and a higher quality of life in the United States. These students are motivated to succeed in order to support their families and uplift their communities. They have had to grow up faster than many of their peers, and represent a diverse population of our school. I teach over 100 students who come from over 20 different home countries.

The community of languages and cultures present within the classroom provides a dynamic learning environment for the students.

Our classroom pushes students to become lifelong learners and readers, and I hope to cultivate this love for learning even further.

The students are always pushing themselves to be a better version of themselves than the day before. Whether it be from learning academically or growing personally, their endeavors do not go unnoticed.

With all of this, they do not have access to quality books in their homes and are always asking about new books and when they will be able to check another text out.

My Project

These books are designed specifically for all my students who all have varying Lexile reading scores. It has been hard to find books appropriate for my students, and these texts both fit their interests and reading level needs! They range from young-adult texts to graphic novels.

These books will allow students to take control of their learning and gain independence in their language development.

Books at this level designed for teenagers are very difficult to find! By supporting our classroom, you will give students choice and the opportunity to become independent readers!
