This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are amazing! As part of a small learning community, they have learned the importance and beauty of building strong relationships with both each other and their teachers. We are so fortunate to be part of such a vibrant and diverse community that gets to learn and grow together.

Good readers are good writers!

My hope is to help them continue their love of learning for the sake of learning. I want all my students to see the importance of literature to themselves, society and the world.

My Project

Fact: Books make you smarter! In order to raise Lexile scores (student reading levels), it is necessary to engage students with relevant, entertaining and proficiency appropriate reading selections that will encourage students to not only read for FUN, but also see the importance in the act of reading.

Why not create an environment where reading is not only encouraged, but also fun and engaging?

All students deserve access to current and relevant literature that reflects their own lived experiences and identities.

Through this grant I will be able to create a classroom library of current, highly engaging and highly reviewed texts that will engage students in reading, therefore increasing their fluency.
