My students need books! We would like some math and design-inspired books, along with pencils and graph paper, to help us build our real-world engineering, design, and technology skills and to fortify our love of math!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students are making short work of the limited books available in our developing math library. Could you imagine looking for an interesting book, only to find that you have read everything available to you, or that nothing captivates you?
My South Brooklyn 6th and 7th-Graders inspire me in that they love to read, all of the time!
I have teamed up with our literacy teacher in trying to support their amazing reading habits in math class; however, our math library is just developing. As I work in a high poverty school, basic supplies are often difficult to come by. My students often visit bookstores, but can only daydream about the books that they would love to have available to them. Your support would make my students' year and foster their development of math and literacy fluency. Your contribution to this project would add books to our library that highlight the more captivating elements of architecture, design, mathematics, physics, and engineering!
My Project
The books in this selection, including Taschen books on Le Corbusier, Eames, and Gaudi, as well as Audobon field guides and reference manuals, will bolster our library with books that use math and design in interesting and inspiring fashions. Exploring math in a manner that excites students, and piques their interest, is a way to not only turn students on to the beauty of mathematics, but also to have them further advocate for their educations, in that they will be reading books that they are interested in! Architecture, Design, Construction, and Engineering are what we wish to explore through reading! My students are the designers, architects, artists, and critical thinkers of tomorrow! For this, I have included pencils and graph paper in this project, to enhance the design materials in our classroom.
Your generosity will bring our library to life!
I would love for my students to know that there is an exciting way to learn most anything. Additionally, one of the best ways to do so is to find a book that speaks to you, to identify with the ideas of another person, and to enhance your reading and math skills at the same time.
