Our school is a public elementary school that serves 550 students in Pre-K through fifth grade. Our students come from diverse backgrounds, as we serve students from our entire county instead of only those in our small zone. We have a STEAM (STEM plus Art) program, which we implement by incorporating art into everything we do. Our STEAM program encourages our students to be creative and to focus on doing their best instead of stressing over perfection. Our students attend PE, art, STEAM, Spanish, music, and computer lab classes each week.
As the school counselor, I strive to make a personal connection with each of my students.
I facilitate individual counseling, group counseling, classroom guidance lessons, academic interventions, and a variety of other strategies to create buy-in from my students, colleagues, parents, and other stakeholders. I believe that my work enables my students to better perform in their academic, personal, and social endeavors.
My Project
I am seeking books to read to my students for academic, social, and emotional growth. I need access to current stories that will appeal to my students. Unfortunately, I cannot afford to purchase these books on my own and the library at my school does not have them.
I think it is important to read to children and I strive to read at least one book during each of my classroom guidance or small group sessions.
I am requesting these books so that I can teach relevant and engaging lessons to my students. Your support will impact 550 students this year and additional students for years to come.
